more circles, engine off. note the propeller! music: "unstoppable" by bombshell rocks
screwing around with 20x zoom, then fucking around rollercoastering. music: "waiting on the ground" by j church
oh hello mountain
do you see the tiny house on top?
now you can :D
i combined several short videos into this one - you'll see me taxiing to the runway & then flying the plane. i'm not sure why joe missed the takeoff, but it was actually pretty much perfect!
music: stellastarr, "somewhere across forever"
& a kind-of-scary video of the touch-&-go. i say that because joe was shaking the camera a LOT (you'll notice he was holding it in the wrong orientation, too - what a pain in the ass it was to rotate & zoom the mp4, don't even ask), so it looks a lot rougher than it was. that's not to say it was an A+ maneuver - it was very windy & tough to control the plane with the propeller so slow, & you'll see my moment of "HEY OKAY LET'S GO TO THE LEFT FOR NO GOOD REASON!"... but i did properly pull up the nose. :) my second landing was less windy & much smoother.
music: modest mouse, "black cadillacs" (pre-release version)
& some pics:
woot! it was GREAT fun. i really enjoyed the ride & was tempted by further lessons, but there is no practical application in my life to be a pilot right now, so i eventually declined. but i will totally pick up a similar coupon to fly a helicopter or pretty much anything else if they come up. :D
rare seared chuck steak & garlic broccolini with a dash of horseradish. i deglazed the pan from the steak & used that to steam the broccolini. :) i love my small plates, they make me think i'm eating so much more than i am. what you see is 280 cal, 10g carb, 41g protein, 4g fiber, lots of A & all my vitamin C.
99/1 turkey breast (tons of rosemary), eggplant, carrots (thyme), yellow squash & zucchini (basil & oregano), shiitake mushrooms, sweet onion (basil), yams, raw heirloom tomatoes, raw radishes, & raw pumpkin seeds. this batch signifies reaching critical mass - i couldn't fit anything else in the 2.1cup containers, & they're exactly where i want the meals calorically! check it out: 384g, 181cal, 23g carb, 18g protein, 6.6g fiber, 6k iu vitamin A, & 921g potassium. man, i love eating.
flat iron steak, rare, with enormous organic sauteed/steamed sugar snap peas & baby carrots.
tonight i had surf &... surf! made a nice prawn cocktail, & had 4oz of wild caught king salmon because it was $30/lb marked down to ten, & i had to taste thirty-fucking-dollar salmon. i simply baked it with pepper & lemon so i wouldn't obscure its flavor. (it was delicious, but not delicious enough to pay three times what i did. :) ) steamed some broccoli nice & crisp to go along. & i have leftovers of all three for tomorrow.
those prawns were so good i went back & bought more. a nice light meal tonight of prawns with cocktail sauce (i mix my own; pre-made stuff is always too bland), & i made a sort of "vegan caprese" salad to go along - romas dusted with garlic powder, celery salt, pepper & onion flakes with whole basil leaves on top. 480 grams for 236 calories (including the sauce), 16g carb, 37g protein.
chicken sausage (four basil & sun dried tomato; four apple. i wanted all basil & tomato, but they ran out), organic eggplant, carrots & sugar snap peas (thyme), zucchini & yellow squash (coriander & black pepper), shiitaki mushrooms, turnip (garlic & lemon), & walla walla onion. i pulled the same trick with deglazing, & it makes a lovely jus. ps, this batch contains the most fucking enormous eggplant ever. :D 396 grams, 184 calories, 19g carb, 20g protein, 7g fiber, 122% of the day's vitamin A, 71% of C, & 732mg potassium!
mmmm garlic pepper sauteed lingcod tonight, which is a fish i've never had & will certainly make again. it fell apart in the most delightful way. i cut a little salad of organic romaine, red pepper, yellow heirloom, & cucumber (naked because the peel had started to mold, oops) to go with it. 551g overall (208 on the fillet), 291 cal, 13g carb, 50g protein, 4g fat, 5g fiber, over 100% on a & c, & apparently lingcod has a shitton of potassium in it, as the meal hit 1847mg.
basil & sun dried tomato chicken sausage au jus, organic eggplant, carrots (thyme), zucchini (garlic & basil), yukon gold potato, & raw red pepper. i like that this meal clearly represents ROYG in the color spectrum. :) 360g, 189cal, 20g carb, 19g protein, 6g fiber & a full day's A&C.
mmm, fresh tilapia, direct from the market. i sauteed it with lemon & garlic, & spiced some firm tomatoes & tore a green leaf lettuce heart to go with it. i'm great at cooking fish, but i haven't yet figured out how to make it not stick to the pan without adding more oil... you can see the delicious pan scrapings at the edge of my plate that should still be attached to the fish. :) 189 calories, 7 carb, 33g protein.
pelagic cod, also from yesterday's trip to the fish market, with lemon & pepper. i oblique-cut a carrot for fun, & steamed it in the pan scrapings. it came out good, but that technique would work better with a stronger fish. 172 calories, 12g carb, 28g protein, boatloads of A & about 1k mg potassium.
so about two years ago, an Unpleasantly Weird Guy started talking to me in the elevator. UWG looked about 35, short, average build, not cute. he wasn't creepy until he started talking, which went like this:
UWG: "i really like your dreads!"
UWG: "i mean i REALLY like them. they're great!"
UWG: "i wish i could have dreads but [pulls off ballcap to reveal significant balding] hehehe!!"
UWG: "but YOUR dreads are really really great!"
me: o_O [gets off elevator]
early in 2010, he was hired into my department & sat in the desk across from mine. i was the most senior member of that group, & so with that kind of proximity, he would regularly ask me questions about the job. i generally reply to business questions in a matter-of-fact manner: no sunshine & roses, but professionally. his routine became this:
10 ask lish a question
20 receive correct answer
30 do not thank lish for assistance
40 write a complaint to the supervisor about how the question was answered
50 goto 10
i get people not liking my attitude, or wanting their hand held more or something, but if you're going to CONTINUE to ASK ME for help, you'd damned well better not complain about the way i answer. UWG went from mild creeper to total douchebag overnight.
fast forward to mid-year. i'd since been promoted to the second-to-highest department at the company, & am on the first of our two four-person interview teams for new applicants. as UWG's group was likely to be laid off soon, we were getting a lot of applicants for our department. guess who applied! so i explained my concerns to my team beforehand so they could help make sure i wasn't being prejudical to UWG, & we proceeded with the interview.
our team's goal in an interview is to find out if the applicant is someone we want to work with, want to teach, want to train, & to get an idea of their level of technical & professional competence. someone less knowledgeable can be chosen over mister I AM 100% PREPARED FOR THIS PROMOTION guy if he's a better fit for the team. we're good at teaching someone with potential. we're NOT good at being constantly grated by a shitty personality.
i asked UWG the totally standard questions we'd been asking everyone else, including how they communicate in a team environment & how they respond when a coworker messes up. for this latter query, other applicants' responses had all detailed going to the coworker & asking about their thought process, then gently correcting them, & going to the supervisor only if it's a severe & repeated offense. UWG... well, at least he was honest. he said it's not his job to correct teammates, & so he goes to the sup every time. EVERY TIME.
while he was more technically proficient than other interviewees, the other three people on my team went, "holy shit, i don't want to work with that asshole." & the second group of interviewers, including my supervisor, agreed with us 100% even without my backstory.
UWG received his walking papers in september (as did my second-worst supervisor ever, HAHA), & was just let go this month. i'm oh-so pleased about it. fuck you, UWG. i can handle your creepiness, but i don't have to put up with you being a dickbag hypocrite, & i don't have to give you a decent chance to stay employed at my company. enjoy sending out those resumes, loser!@ :D :D
oh HI flashy sodalite! - http://stretched.livejournal.com/5589711.html:
it seems all flashy sodalite is "just happened upon" - it's not like labradorite or seraphinite or charoite or other stones that regularly exhibit a schiller effect when carved properly. my previous pair was such a find, & though undersized, certainly rare enough that i was glad to inlay them in 3/4" eyelets... but i still wanted a real pair in my size.
i was recently able to commission a pair from relic, a calculated risk - leo warned me the flash was pretty dark gray & the stone almost black, but i proceeded even after seeing pictures of the rough. he was right; they were beautiful, but i resold them unworn.
so i was stoked when skaforbreakfast put up her pair, acquired from southhillstones, because the bright flash was just what i wanted. i snatched them up, confirmed their brilliance, & passed on my inlaid pair to a happy new home.
i'll start with tim's original pics:
ska said one had flash, but i found flash on all four sides. one plug is definitely brighter, but many of the little "black" spots in both plugs do flash! here are both sides:
it's unfortunate that the two very flashy sides are on the same plug, & that the MOST flashy side has a poor finish. however, the most flashy side's blue best matches the least flashy side of the other plug, so i'm basically trading a little visual magic for a better balanced & properly polished pair. :) here are my chosen sides under different lighting:
a close-up on the 4ga, which i've posted before:
& i know you want an HD video of this madness.
i'm very pleased with this pair - they're just what i wanted from the start.
that ought to keep you busy until i get back with HOT SHIT CUTTING PICS OMGZZZZZZ
